The Modest Photographer
I started my photographic journey with the armed forces in 1982, recording footage of the Falklands conflict. On my return, I spent several more years documenting their campaigns before taking a different direction – into the world of TV and film-making. I worked mostly with ITV, at Granada studios in Manchester, supplying PR material for release to the media. This was in the days of print when you had to get it right. From there I found myself on the Royal List. This is an exclusive list of accredited photographers trusted to record the Royal Family on their many visits around the world.
In 1998, I came to sunny Devon for a holiday. I liked it so much, I moved down and settled in Paignton. Now I run a small design and photography business – MiraclePR – focusing on wedding photography and covering sports and events for the press.
Fully experienced in almost all aspects of photography, including teaching, I have decided to pass on the tips and experience I have gathered. I started The Modest Photographer blog (Diary of a Seasoned Snapper) in 2021. My weekly posts will give you a real world insight into the variety of work a professional photographer can get involved in. I will be sure to include plenty of hints and tips on how to make sure things run smoothly. I will also be adding ‘How To‘ guides covering all sorts of photography techniques. Learn how to shoot through glass and mesh. Discover how to freeze a fast-moving subject while capturing ambient light.
