The Platinum Jubilee began on Thursday with the lighting of beacons around the UK coast, including on Corbyn Head (left). On Friday, Torbay Council put on the fantastic Music on the Meadows event at Torre Abbey Meadows. I couldn’t resist snapping a real life Royal family – how appropriate. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

It was an event for kids as well as adults. Union flags were an essential kit item – perfect for product placement (right). ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Top tip! Not all band photographs have to take place on the stage. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

After getting some great early shots of Funk City Band (right), I could afford to take a break and conserve my energy (left). Sitting backstage enabled me to stay alert for those unique behind the scenes shots (centre). ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Low cloud cover makes it impossible for the Red Arrows to create a standard vertical heart shape. So, they came up with a flattened, highly visible version for just those conditions. They debuted their new design at the English Riviera Airshow. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

When you have three minutes to take a portrait of someone you’re unlikely to see again, it’s important to quickly build rapport. After some gentle persuasion, this former Lancaster bomber pilot soon got into the occasion. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Worried your shots into a cloudy sky will fade into the background? Solve the problem with a simple vignette effect. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Here’s another airshow photography tip. Sometimes, what’s happening on the ground is just as interesting as what’s in the air. So, keep your eyes open for what’s around you. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Being aware of what’s in the press is always wise. Prince Louis was making headlines with his facial contortions – so after clearing it with his superior, this member of the Tigers followed suit. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Crowd shots are great, but it’s the people in them that make the occasion. From playful service dogs and robotic fundraisers to police officers with an eye for fashion, keep a look out for those unique ‘human interest’ shots that will spice up your picture selection. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

VIPs are human too! Make a good first impression, show respect and demonstrate a positive, friendly attitude and even the most camera-shy of dignitaries might surprise you. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

Look beyond your subject. Rock Choir were amazing, but the animated gentleman added even more. ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

With Top Gun Maverick showing in cinemas, this picture was just asking to be taken! ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR

While the crowds were winding their way home on Sunday afternoon, there was one last job for me. As a professional, you have to produce consistent work – even at the very end of a 72-hour weekend! ©Al Macphee/MiraclePR
